Why women over 45 are comparing Nivea Q10 anti-wrinkle cream with a firming cream
Nivea Q10 is probably the most bought anti-wrinkle cream in Australia: it is in every Woolworths and Chemist Warehouse, it costs less than a takeaway lunch, and most of us have used it. At Genova Skincare the question we hear from women over 45 is a quieter one: "I've used Q10 for years. Why isn't it doing what it used to?"
The answer is usually that the problem has changed, not the cream. Research published in Maturitas by Affinito and colleagues linked skin collagen loss to years since menopause rather than age alone, and work by Baumann in Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum notes that elastin production largely stops in adulthood. Fine lines respond to hydration and antioxidants. A jawline that has softened, or a neck that has started to crease, is a firmness problem, and that asks something different of a cream.
What is in Nivea Q10 anti-wrinkle cream, and what it does for skin after 45
The Q10 range is built on three ingredients: coenzyme Q10, an antioxidant the skin makes less of with age; creatine, which Nivea pairs with it; and hyaluronic acid for hydration. The Extra Firming Day Cream adds SPF30, and the Night Cream leaves it out. A 50ml jar is about $28 at full price, and Chemist Warehouse regularly lists it between $14 and $23.
The science is reasonable for what it claims. A study by Knott and colleagues in BioFactors found topical Q10 raises the skin's own Q10 levels and provides antioxidant protection, and hyaluronic acid plumps the surface for a few hours. Nivea's firmness claims rest on its own consumer testing. Where the range earns its keep after 45 is the SPF30 in a moisturiser you will actually use every morning, which protects whatever else you do.
The trade-off is that these are moisturisers first: no peptide, no retinoid and nothing aimed specifically at how firm the skin looks.

Prices checked 28 September 2026 from Nivea's Australian retailers on Google Shopping. On special, Nivea is clearly cheaper per ml; at full price the two are close, and the Genova bottle covers the neck and chest that most women do not treat at all.
Where Genova Firming Cream fits for skin after 45
Genova Firming Cream is built for the second problem, not the first. Its actives are hexapeptide-10, sold as Serilesine, a peptide used in firming products, and Nocturshape, a complex aimed at how compact and smooth the skin looks, in a base of shea butter, olive oil and squalane. It comes in a 120ml airless pump because it is meant for the neck, décolletage and upper arms as well as the face, the places where firmness goes first after menopause.
It has no retinoid and no acid, so it suits skin that has become reactive, and it layers under sunscreen in the morning or sits as the last step at night. It does contain fragrance, so patch test first.
The honest limits: Serilesine and Nocturshape are Lipotec actives with supplier data only, and we do not quote those figures. A review in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science by Gorouhi and Maibach found the peptide evidence overall promising but thin. There is no SPF, so you still need Nivea's or someone else's sunscreen every morning. And no cream, ours included, lifts skin that has slid: the American Academy of Dermatology is plain that a cream cannot reach deep enough to lift sagging skin. Realistic expectations
With Nivea, expect softer, more hydrated skin from the first week and sun protection every day you wear it. With Genova, expect texture and hydration to improve at 4–6 weeks and the look of firmness along the jaw and neck to change over 8–12 weeks of daily use.

Neither cream lifts jowls that have dropped, fills hollow cheeks or tightens a neck that has lost its structure. Those changes involve fat pads and ligaments beneath the skin, and a topical works on the skin surface only. Who Genova Firming Cream suits after 45, and who it does not
It may suit you if your concern is the look of firmness along the jaw, neck or décolletage, you want one cream for face and body, your skin no longer tolerates retinol, and you can commit to nightly use for 12 weeks.
It is not for you if you react to fragrance, you want SPF in the same jar, or your concern is true sagging, which is a matter for a cosmetic doctor rather than a cream.
