Why women over 45 are comparing L'Oréal Revitalift Laser with a firming cream
Revitalift is L'Oréal's biggest anti-ageing name in Australia, and the Laser X3 line is the one aimed at deeper wrinkles and loss of firmness. At Genova Skincare we hear about it from women over 45 in two ways: "I've been using it for years, should I upgrade?" and "It stings now, what do I use instead?"
Both come from the same change. Research published in Maturitas by Affinito and colleagues linked skin collagen loss to years since menopause rather than age alone, and thinner, drier skin tolerates retinoids less well than it did at 40. At the same time the concern shifts from lines to firmness: a softer jaw, a creasing neck, a crepey chest. Those two shifts decide which product earns your money.
What is in L'Oréal Revitalift Laser X3, and what it does for skin after 45
The Laser X3 creams are built on three actives L'Oréal describes as pro-retinol, hyaluronic acid and a vitamin C derivative, with the day cream available with SPF15. Chemist Warehouse lists the 50ml day cream at about $27, Big W at $33, and the night cream at about $33 to $47 depending on the retailer and the sale. The range also includes a tri-peptide serum and a pure retinol night serum.
The ingredient logic is sound. Retinoids have the strongest evidence of any topical for lines: a 24-week study by Kafi and colleagues in Archives of Dermatology found retinol improved fine wrinkles in naturally aged skin. Pro-retinol is a gentler ester form with less research than retinol itself, which is the trade L'Oréal makes for a cream you can use every day. Hyaluronic acid hydrates, and the vitamin C derivative brightens over time.
The trade-offs for older skin: even mild retinoids can sting or flake on menopausal skin, the firming claims rest on the brand's own testing, and this is a 50ml face cream. The neck and chest usually get whatever is left on your fingers.

Prices checked 28 September 2026 from L'Oréal's Australian retailers on Google Shopping. On a deep special Revitalift is cheaper per ml; at full price Genova is slightly cheaper, and the bottle is sized for the neck and chest as well as the face.
Where Genova Firming Cream fits for skin after 45
Genova Firming Cream takes the other road. Instead of a retinoid it uses hexapeptide-10, sold as Serilesine, a peptide used in firming products, and Nocturshape, a complex aimed at how compact and smooth the skin looks, in a base of shea butter, olive oil and squalane. It has no retinoid and no acid, which is the point for women whose Revitalift has started to sting, and it comes in a 120ml airless pump because it is meant for the neck, décolletage and upper arms, not just the face.
It layers under sunscreen in the morning or sits as the last step at night, and it works alongside a retinol used elsewhere in the routine. It does contain fragrance, so patch test first.
The honest limits: Serilesine and Nocturshape are Lipotec actives with supplier data only, and we do not quote those figures. A review in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science by Gorouhi and Maibach found peptide evidence promising but thin, and retinoids remain the better-proven ingredient for lines, which is why our comparison of peptides vs retinol for menopausal skin exists. There is no SPF. And no cream lifts skin that has slid: the American Academy of Dermatology is plain that a cream cannot reach deep enough to lift sagging skin.
Realistic expectations
With Revitalift Laser, expect hydration straight away and softer fine lines over 8–12 weeks if your skin tolerates the retinoid. With Genova, expect texture and hydration to improve at 4–6 weeks and the look of firmness along the jaw and neck to change over 8–12 weeks of daily use.

How to switch from Revitalift to a firming cream after 45, or use both: step by step
- Decide what is bothering you most. Lines: keep a retinoid. Softness along the jaw and neck: add a firming cream. Both: use both.

Neither cream lifts jowls that have dropped, restores volume to hollow cheeks or tightens a neck that has lost its structure. Those changes sit in the fat pads and ligaments beneath the skin, and a topical works on the skin surface.
