CeraVe lists the SA Smoothing Cleanser as a "gentle salicylic acid face and body wash" for rough, bumpy and very dry skin, including skin prone to keratosis pilaris on the arms. Its ingredient list is built on sodium lauroyl sarcosinate and cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine as the cleansing agents, with niacinamide, gluconolactone, three ceramides (NP, AP and EOP), cholesterol and hydrolysed hyaluronic acid. It is fragrance-free and CeraVe does not publish a salicylic acid percentage.
That is a strong formula for the price. The ceramide and cholesterol pairing matches what the skin loses after menopause, and gluconolactone is a mild exfoliant in its own right. A 236ml bottle is $24.99 RRP and Chemist Warehouse listed it at $14.99 on 28 September 2026, which is about $0.11 per ml at full price and under $0.07 on special.
The trade-offs are the ones that come with a body wash: a thin gel rather than a foam, and salicylic acid low in the list beneath the ceramides, which is why it feels mild on the face and modest on a congested chin.

Prices checked 28 September 2026 from cerave.com.au and Chemist Warehouse. CeraVe is clearly cheaper per ml, and if you use one cleanser on face and body it is far cheaper. The Genova bottle is a face product, and 150ml lasts most women three to four months used twice a day.
Where Genova Active Foaming Cleanser fits for skin after 45
Genova Active Foaming Cleanser is built for the second problem: a T-zone that still gets oily and congested on a face that has otherwise become thinner and more reactive. It is a light foam with salicylic acid formulated at the gentle end, and we do not publish a percentage. Witch hazel and cucumber sit with it for a fresh finish, and panthenol, allantoin and glycerin are there to stop the skin feeling tight afterwards. The cleansing agents are cocamidopropyl betaine and sodium lauroyl sarcosinate, so there is no sulphate.
A small amount does the whole face, and the foam rinses without the slip a body-wash gel can leave. Under Australian rules it is a cosmetic cleanser, not an acne treatment: the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme sets out that a salicylic wash stays a cosmetic when it is presented as cleansing and exfoliating, and that is how we present it.

Realistic expectations
With CeraVe, expect skin that feels comfortable rather than tight from day one, and rough or bumpy patches on the body to smooth over four to eight weeks. With Genova, expect a cleaner-feeling T-zone within the first week and fewer clogged pores along the nose and chin over six to eight weeks of twice-daily use.
