ScarAway does reach Australia, through Amazon Australia, eBay and a handful of international sellers that ship here. That is why the prices scatter so widely. On 20 September 2026 the gel was listed at about $36 through one international seller, a 20g tube at $90 and above on two others, and the sheets at $27.99 for six or $41.99 for ten on Amazon Australia. In the United States the small gel tube sits at about US$12 in ordinary retail.

Two caveats before anyone does arithmetic with that table. Grams and millilitres are not interchangeable for silicone gel, so the per-unit column is a rough guide rather than a like-for-like figure. And prices move: the same pack can shift by ten or twenty dollars between sellers in a week.

ScarAway sells both, and the choice is about where the scar is rather than which is stronger. The silicone does the same thing in both formats.
Sheets are adhesive and stay put for days at a time, which suits a flat scar under clothing and suits anyone who would rather not remember a twice daily step. They are visible, they lift at the edges on a joint, and they are awkward on a face or neck.
A gel dries clear in under a minute and takes sunscreen and makeup over the top once dry, which is why face, neck and chest scars usually end up on gel. It also asks more of you, because it is twice a day for months. ScarAway's own gel directions are the standard ones: clean and dry the area, a very thin layer twice daily, and keep going for 60 to 90 days.

What a silicone scar gel can realistically do for skin after 45
Silicone is the best supported at-home approach to a raised or red scar, and the honest version of the evidence has two halves. A Cochrane review by O'Brien and Jones found silicone improved scar thickness and colour, and the same authors described the evidence as poor quality and highly susceptible to bias, with the case for prevention weaker again. The mechanism is physical. The film holds water in the scar and shields it, and a well hydrated scar tends to lay down less excess collagen, which is what makes one sit raised and firm. Research published in Seminars in Plastic Surgery puts scar maturation at a twelve to eighteen month process and silicone use at around twelve hours a day for three to four months.
Mature skin remodels a scar more slowly, so the timelines printed on any silicone product tend to sit at the longer end through perimenopause and beyond. That is a reason to buy enough, not a reason to skip it.
Realistic expectations
With any silicone gel or sheet, the itch and tightness usually settle first, often inside a few weeks. Changes in colour and texture come gradually across eight to twelve weeks of daily use. ScarAway's own 60 to 90 day minimum says the same thing in their words.
Older scars move more slowly and have a lower ceiling than fresh ones. No silicone product removes a scar. Results vary from person to person.
What no silicone gel can do, whatever brand you buy
It will not fill a pitted or sunken acne scar, because the shortfall there sits below the surface and a surface film cannot reach it.
It will not settle a large or growing keloid on its own. Who should skip a silicone scar gel after 45

Look elsewhere if the scar is pitted rather than raised, or if it is a stretch mark, or if what is bothering you is pigment rather than texture.
See a doctor first if the scar is growing beyond its original border, painful, or changing in a way that worries you.
