Research published in Maturitas by Affinito and colleagues linked skin collagen loss to years since menopause rather than age alone, and the skin under the eye shows it first. Dryness is part of that, and a rich cream helps dryness. But puffiness that no longer settles, circles that have deepened and lines at the outer corner are not dryness problems. Those ingredients do what they say. A review in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences by Lin and colleagues lists avocado oil among plant oils that help repair the skin barrier and reduce water loss. Glycerin is one of the best-studied humectants there is. Caffeine, as Herman and Herman set out in Skin Pharmacology and Physiology, can briefly improve microcirculation and soften the look of puffiness.
What it does not contain is anything aimed at lines or circles beyond hydration and a short caffeine effect: no peptide, no retinol, no vitamin C, no niacinamide on the highlighted list. Fine for a comfort cream, a gap if lines and circles are why you are shopping.

The table shows why this is not really a contest. Kiehl's has made a very good moisturiser; Genova has made a serum with three actives, none of which is a moisturiser. Genova Perfecting Eye Serum was built around the three eye changes we hear about most after 45, with one active for each: acetyl tetrapeptide-5 for the look of puffiness and bags, plankton extract for the look of dark circles, and acetyl octapeptide-3 for the look of expression lines at the outer corner. It is a water-based serum with silicones for slip, no retinol and no acids, so it suits thin, easily irritated skin.
Because it is light, it goes on first, under moisturiser, SPF and concealer, and it does not crease. It does contain fragrance, so patch test first if your eyes are reactive.
The honest limits: the data on our three actives comes from their manufacturer, not from independent trials, and we do not quote those figures. A review in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science by Gorouhi and Maibach found peptide evidence promising but thin, and retinol still has the stronger record for lines. It is not a moisturiser, so very dry skin may want a cream on top.
