Evidence on facial cleansing brushes is limited and mostly small. A study in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology by Aiello and colleagues compared manual washing with a sonic device in 12 women. Oil removal was similar, but the device group did not show the drop in skin hydration seen with manual cleansing. That is encouraging for dry skin, though the women were young and the study was tiny.
A review in the same journal by Gold and colleagues reported improvements in breakouts with a sonic brush over four weeks. That work was industry supported, so treat it as a hint rather than proof.
